Saturdays AND SUNDAYS (starting 8/30), 12pm – 9pm
Amsterdam Ave., 97th-110th St.
List of our restaurants (let us know if you’re not included on this list or listed as closed)

Starting from Saturday, August 8, 2020, thirteen blocks of Amsterdam Avenue will be closed to traffic for the DOT Open Streets: Restaurants Program.

What is Open Streets: Restaurants?
Restaurants will be able to take full advantage of our streets by expanding their outdoor dining options all the way into the street, allowing for more space for social distancing.  There will be a 15 ft. lane in the middle for any emergency vehicles and bicycles.  See information on the program here and DOT guidelines here.

  1. Each restaurant MUST apply using the link below, regardless if you are already participating in Open Restaurants on the sidewalk/curb lane. https://nycopenrestaurantsapplication.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html
    1. At the bottom of the application you should select “Open Streets,” and then you are prompted to type in their organizing partner ID #, which is: 646207727610025200706185652
      1. The ID is working, after some previous technical difficulties
    2. Then you fill out all pertinent information about your restaurant, including DOHMH license #
    3. For the section about dimensions, you should indicate the width of your actual business (which you can’t exceed) and how far into the roadway you plan to serve. Remember we are maintaining a 15’ emergency lane at all times during the temporary street closure. Restaurants are able to extend all the way up to the edge of the emergency lane.
  2. Follow the regulations set by DOT.  View the plan for our neighborhood here.
    1. Restaurants will have an extra 20-25 foot space for outdoor dining
    2. There will be a 15 foot emergency lane in the middle
    3. Amplified or live music is NOT allowed
    4. Social distancing guidelines must be followed
      1. As a reminder, some helpful resources:

        5. Summary of NYS Restaurant Guidelines
      2. Another reminder that the BID is providing free masks for all opened businesses!
  3. Keep us updated on if you see anything of concern this first Saturday, August 8 (ex. cars on the street, lack of social distancing, etc.)
    1. We ask that you be patient with us as we have our trial run this Saturday, and any extra eyes and ears will be very helpful.
  4. Be sure to clean up when the clean up ends.

We also would love restaurants to promote this program on their social media, etc.

Do I have to participate?
No, restaurants can continue to just have outdoor seating on sidewalks.  But we are excited about this opportunity to operate the largest Open Streets: Restaurants plan in NYC so far, and we hope that you are willing to participate with us.  We are excited to boost local businesses and raise awareness about the great restaurants in our neighborhood.
